Summary
Jack deserves a better life, he knows that, so does Abigail – but an ugly, selfish part of Arthur wants to keep them and stop them from ever taking a step away from him.
Don’t waste your second chance, a voice inside his head says, and for once Arthur doesn’t immediately want to throw it out of his head.
--- OR:---
When Arthur takes Abigail and Jack out on a picnic in order to ask a question, Abigail makes it clear Arthur isn't imagining her to be someone else.

Summary
The man that looked him in the eye on that mountain, though, was Dutch. The one he’d known for twenty years, that had cradled him and loved him and known him and taught him. He knew his tells, knew his eyes.
And that man, the one who was silent though he’d never known him to be, was his Pa.
‘Pa, please don’t go. I don’t want to die alone.’

With his face pressed against the cold stone slabs of the prison cell, hands bound in rough rope, cursing John for all he’s worth he thinks of John’s ranch.
Thinks of a life he could have lived.
He still loves him.
He's throwing stupid meaningless swears after him as Reyes calls John away from the cell. He hurts. He’ll die soon. And for some reason, he can’t stop laughing.
A canon divergent added scene after Javier's capture in RDR1, sharing a drink and reminiscing on old times.

“You’re thinking,” Javier said, lifting Charles out of his thoughts. “Thinking of a song?”
“Sort of,” Charles answered with a soft sigh. “I used to know one that my mother taught me, too, when I was a kid. I don’t really remember it anymore.”
“Qué lástima,” Javier muttered.
“Yeah,” said Charles. Though he didn’t understand what Javier said, he could figure it out through his inflection. “I wish I remembered more of her language. Our language. I can’t remember any of it now. I just… I miss her.”
Javier nodded pensively. He was quiet for a while, and Charles had thought that signaled the end of the conversation. Charles was just about to get up and head to his tent when Javier broke the silence.
“Tell me about her,” Javier said softly.
