Summary
At this point, Lily doesn’t even know why she’s so angry—what on earth she wants from this boy. Maybe she’s so disappointed in him because she allowed herself to believe he felt a shred of guilt for his behavior toward her best friend. Maybe it’s because she’s lonelier than she realized with only Severus for company—kind, thoughtful, Dark Magic-loving Severus who doesn’t stand up for her, not even when his friends call her transphobic slurs. Maybe Lily just wants a friend—a partner—who understands what it’s like for her.
But it doesn’t matter what she wants because, whatever it is, Potter’s not going to be anybody she gets it from, and she’ll be better off the sooner she stops looking to him for it.

Summary
Look, the thing you have to understand is that James isn’t gay or anything. It just takes a lot of work to seduce girls for long enough to get them into bed, and then how long can that even last before you get fed up with them acting like—well—girls and have to break it off? As far as James is concerned, it isn’t worth the energy. With Sirius, on the other hand, it’s easy. They’ve been best mates since first year, so the trust is already there. More importantly, they know exactly what they want from each other, and they both want the same thing: not to be in a dry spell.
So they bang sometimes. Correction: they banged sometimes. That, of course, all grinds to a halt when Sirius has to go and send Snape down the Whomping Willow on a full moon, and when it does, James goes looking for a replacement.

Summary
James will never understand her friendship with Snape, and that’s fine, just like it’s fine that she rejects him that day on the lake. The thing is, James kind of hates her back—can’t really stand what a stuck-up prude she is. He’s got his own reasons for pursuing her, and like he said, those reasons are strategic.
As long as people think he fancies her, he’s safe. As long as people think he fancies an unattainable girl, they won’t be looking at the way he really fancies an unattainable boy.
xx
Because he's James's best mate, Sirius offers to help set James up with Lily. What he doesn't know is that James fancies him and is enlisting Lily to help set James up with Sirius - while pretending in public that James fancies Lily. What could go wrong? James/Sirius, queerplatonic James/Lily.

Summary
It occurs to James that they’re sitting awfully close together on James’s bed. He's suddenly, acutely aware that if he just inched his fingers a little to the left—the heat of Sirius’s skin is bleeding through his robes, and James’s hands start to sweat. His pulse picks up. His eyes follow Sirius’s fingertips as they comb the hair out of Sirius’s face and settle in his lap, twisting around themselves, and James is seized with an urge to grab them and—
—what? What does James want, anyway, that he doesn’t already have? He doesn’t want to do anything to spook Sirius, who’s clearly still—to call him “rattled” would be an understatement. He’s totally sucked up in his own drama right now, and with good reason; he doesn’t need James to suck all the oxygen out of the room like he usually does, especially when James doesn’t even know what he wants.
(Does he know what he wants? He thinks he does, buried somewhere deep inside where his conscious mind can’t reach, but he pushes this thought out of his head the instant it occurs to him. It’s not real if James doesn’t give it the time of day, and some things are better left in the night.)
xx Sirius moves in with the Potters the summer before sixth year. Tension ensues.

Summary
“But—we have to talk about this,” Sirius insists. “You kiss me, and I’m dating Remus, and then you ask Evans out the next morning? You’re not acting like yourself, and now you’ve been dodging me all day. I miss you. I just—”
“You just don’t feel the same way,” James fills in for him. “You know what, man? It’s fine. I overstepped, and I shouldn’t have. It’s like you said—you’re with Moony.” Sirius purses his lips like he’s lost, and James resists the urge to dive after him. “Have you told him?” he asks instead.
“No,” Sirius admits quietly.
“Are you going to tell him?”
“I… don’t know. I don’t want to make things weird between him and you. I just want things to be…”
Yeah. Yeah, James just wants things to be, too. But he doesn’t have the luxury of pretending like they are, and now, neither does Sirius.

Summary
If he’s being honest with himself—really honest with himself—his real reasons for offering himself up to Sirius as fake boyfriend material have nothing to do with helping Sirius help James out. But, well, who’s it going to hurt to keep those to himself if he goes through with this? If Remus wants to do a trial run of coming out, knowing that he can take it back after and claim it was all a ruse—worst-case scenario, he goes back to hiding who he is when all’s said and done, but best-case, people get used to it without the world falling apart, and Remus gets to stay out even after his “relationship” with Sirius unravels. And if he gets to cuddle up to Sirius a little in the meantime—
Or: Remus and Sirius carry out a fake relationship to dispel rumors that James and Sirius are dating, and Remus gets more than he bargained for. Super tropey. Remus/Sirius, Sirius/James, background Lily/James. Chapter 2: secret relationship. Chapter 3: shit hits the fan. Chapter 4: resolution.

Summary
He wonders how he’s going to feel if he gets his memories back and Wormtail gets slammed back into his head. He’s probably not going to just forget how he felt about the world this past week (though he supposes he doesn’t know that for sure). When Peter becomes Wormtail again, is he still going to hate him? Will that mean that he’s going to hate himself? And is he still going to keep seeing the world through his own eyes, or will it go back to looking the way it did to Wormtail?
It doesn’t matter, Peter decides, not yet. For now, Wormtail is gone, and Peter is the one who makes all the decisions. He doesn’t want to be like Wormtail, pining over James and hating the woman who got in his way. He wants to be the person he knows he can be—the person who isn't all fucked up by his baggage.
He is pretty sure that the only reason Wormtail was so awful is the baggage he carried around. According to Remus and Sirius, befriending James was the first time Wormtail ever had protection from that kind of cruelty—even if, as they admitted sheepishly, it was only because the Marauders were the ones doing the bullying.
(Or: It's 1981, and Peter wakes up in St. Mungo's with no memory of who he is.)

Summary
Sirius steps closer. The dream is set in their old flat, the one they used to share before Sirius broke his heart and tossed him out; he can’t remember the exact shade of the carpet or walls, the precise thickness of the stripes of Sirius’s red bedding, and the whole room looks wrong in a way that Remus no longer recalls how to correct. He hates it. With every detail he forgets, he feels like Sirius is being ripped even further from him, and—
“You can’t be here, Sirius—”
“Have you slept with him?” says Sirius in a husky voice. “Do you let him touch you like I used to?”
“That’s none of your bloody bus—”
“Does it still scare you? Is he helping you work through it like you asked me to, or don’t you feel safe enough with anybody but me?”
Sirius is only asking because he already knows the answer. Then again, Sirius is only asking because he’s everything Remus hates about himself personified.
(Or: Damocles Belby invents the Wolfsbane Potion to help Remus. The potion survives the test of time; their relationship does not. Remus/Damocles, Remus/Sirius.)

Summary
She shrugs. “I was thinking I’d go with Narcissa instead,” she says.
“Okay. It’s just—we picked our names together. I thought you… I thought we…”
Narcissa tamps down the guilt that immediately starts to surge through her. “I’m sorry, Sirius. I didn’t realize you… I didn’t think it would matter to you.”
“It doesn’t matter,” says Sirius quickly. “It’s fine. Narcissa it is.”
But Narcissa doesn’t think it is fine. Narcissa doesn’t think any of this is fine.
(Or: Narcissa and Sirius come out as trans together. Sirius's transition goes smoothly. Narcissa's doesn't.)

Summary
James may be a monster, but at least his internalized homophobia doesn’t run so deep that he’d pick on people for being rumored to be gay like he is.
No: it only runs deep enough that he’d pick on boys he’s not allowed to fancy.

Summary
“We did the right thing, leaving them, didn’t we?” James frets now, kicking up dirt as they wander the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest. He rakes an anxious hand through his hair. “Sirius almost bloody murdered someone, and Remus—he’s just fine with it. It’s like he doesn’t even care that Sirius almost made him an accomplice to murder—or turned him into the very thing that made him a werewolf in the first place.”
Peter carefully studies James’s tired face. “We did the right thing,” he agrees, but not for the same reasons as James’s.
“I just—I miss them so much, Pete. It feels like somebody took my soul and bloody—ripped it out.”
“It’ll be okay, James, I swear. You’ve still got me.”
This, at least, is the truth—the whole truth. Peter’s not a very good person—he knows he’s not—but at least James can always count on him. Peter is nothing if not predictable.

Summary
It’s a long night in the Hospital Wing. It’s raining. At the first crack of thunder, James’s hand flies to his robe pocket—but the phials that are going to turn them into Animagi are light-years away in Gryffindor Tower, and he and Sirius are rooted to Snape’s bedside, unable to move.
They look at each other.
Snape doesn’t wake until half an hour past daylight. When Sirius and James return to the dormitory, they find Peter sitting upright in bed with one empty phial and two whose contents are not clear like they were, not even blood red like they must have been last night, but black.
(Or: After having to restart the process of becoming Animagi, James and Sirius find themselves alone together at Hogwarts for Easter break.)

Summary
Besides, ever since James—did what he did, Sirius supposes he’s been feeling a little strangely toward James himself. Like, he can’t stop watching—not just his mouth, but James’s entire face, the creases in his forehead and planes of his jaw. He starts to notice shit like the flex of James’s arms under his too-small pajamas and the way water droplets bead up at his temples when he gets out of the shower at night, and he thinks he’s going to be sick—thinks he might be losing his mind.
(Or: Sirius misses his opportunity.)

Summary
It doesn’t think of Sirius as a victim, though, not really. The reasons he’s in here are good enough for the Ministry, and they’re certainly good enough for the dementor. If anything’s the victim, it is. After all, without minds like Sirius’s to feast on, it’s got nothing but a void that stretches on endlessly into misery, and nothing should have to live like that, not even a half-alive virus like it is.
