Summary
For a long time, Tim doesn’t know his parents are dead. Maybe that makes him a bad son, for not knowing. When he reads about death, or when he watches people die in movies, their loved ones always know. There’s a gasp of pained revelation, an instinctual loss.
Tim doesn’t feel that. He wouldn’t have noticed at all, except for that he likes to keep track of the things going on in the places where his parents visit. Sometimes, it means he can ask leading questions, on their mostly-weekly phone calls, and Janet will spiral off into some tangent about these people and their lack of work ethic, and she’ll talk for minutes on end before realizing she’s still on the phone, getting bored, and then ending the call. So he keeps an alert system on his phone, for news, so they have some topics in common to talk about. It’s only luck he sees the article before anyone else does.

Summary
Sometimes, Tim isn’t sure he’s real.
Tim isn’t sure when he started altering his appearance. Maybe he always knew how to do it. Maybe he learned how watching his mother in front of the vanity in her room, blue silk dressing gown wrapped tightly around brittle bones as she peered critically at her reflection, widening her irises ever so slightly, narrowing the bridge of her nose.
A good transformation, she’d told him once, is not over exaggerated, or particularly striking. It must appear completely natural at all times, or the trick is ruined. The game is up.
Tim’s nose is a little crooked. He doesn’t remember how long it’s been that way.

Summary
He wasn’t even there, and Damian wasn’t sure why he was surprised. Even when he’d hesitantly extended the invitation, he’d known better than to count it as a sure thing. It wasn’t like the nature of his father’s job didn’t result in it’s fair share of unpredictable emergencies. It was just that if one had come up, he would likely have been called in to assist as Robin. So when Bruce didn’t show, he’d waited eagerly for the alert, already planning his excuses.
The makeshift gallery was nearly empty of families now, and Damian was fiercely avoiding coming to terms with the fact that his father had just decided not to come.

Summary
“Was that…was that Jason?”
Tim guessed his confusion was understandable. After all, it had kind of slipped his mind to tell him about the whole Jason Todd not being dead thing.
Or: Jason comes to the Tower fully intending to teach the new Robin a lesson, but gets a little off track.

Summary
The thunder booms again and he flinches deeper into the mattress, then curls his chin down to get off the growing damp spot on his pillowcase.
He has to go get Alfred. He has to make sure he’s okay—but suppose he isn’t, suppose somebody has killed him or Alfred has choked on something in the library or tripped down the stairs and snapped his neck—Bruce can see the bone sticking out now, shining as bright as marquee lights in the dark.
He closes his eyes for a moment only to see black wings dipping lower and lower, and snaps them open.
