Summary
Doc Holliday doesn't wish to doom anyone to lose him. Still, he finds himself becoming close to two people who might just mean more to him than he likes to admit. Starts Doc/Kate, then Doc/Wyatt, and some Wyatt/Mattie with a tiny hint of Wyatt/Kate. A big ol' mess.
It's a long one, and it will have a sequel. Part one describes a journey Doc and Wyatt take with Wyatt's brother James from Dodge City, Kansas to Denver, Colorado. Their objective is to transfer a prisoner there for an old friend of Wyatt's in Wichita. Along the way, they encounter perils of the heart as well as perils of the road.

Summary
Doc and Wyatt have cemented their relationship, but its definition remains elusive. Wyatt's brother James has gone from suspicious to supportive to purely bewildered. Wyatt thinks he loves Mattie, but something is lacking. Doc loves Kate, but he's still in love with his cousin and doesn't think anyone should have to watch him die. "Yet withal" ...Wyatt might be the only person who gets it. Too bad they've agreed not to talk about it, any of it: their love lives, Doc's condition, death, oh yes, and the Civil War. They should just stick to the weather. But la, that chuckle of Wyatt's. And damned if Doc doesn't look fine. If you think this summary is rambling, you're getting exactly the right impression.
