He paused, then shifted the basket to one hand. “Tessa and V and J are my family, and family looks out for each other. And I want you to be my family too. If, if you want, I mean.” He could feel his eyes hollow and squint in a mix of hope and self-consciousness. N held out his hand in offer.
Cyn’s eyes flicked between his hand and his face for a long moment. “Family,” she repeated. “I’ve never had…” She hesitantly took his hand. “Yes, I would like to be your family.”

He shrank further behind her, clutching a handful of her dress. Her hand landed gently on his shoulder, squeezing reassuringly.
“Aw, don’t be like that, J! This is N, and he’s a bit younger than you girls, so I expect you to help him out if he needs it."

He found himself pinned in place by the dozen eyes protruding like cameras from Cyn’s body. His voice box seized, rendering him mute.
“Hello, N,” Cyn said. “I have scared you.”
He nodded minutely.
All those appendages sort of… sagged. “My apologies. I suppose it could not be helped. But I hope you know I would not hurt you.”
He’d known that about fifteen minutes ago. But there were a lot of things N thought he knew that were really being called into question right now.

Lizzy looped her arm around V’s checking her phone “I know, right. He’s so excitable as well.”
V stood there surprised at the unexpected contact and she looked down at the worker.
Lizzy didn’t seem to have noticed V’s hesitancy and tugged forward on V’s arm to which the disassembly drone obliged, letting the blonde whisk her easy to where the group (Uzi,N and Uzi’s Parents) were supposed to be meeting.
It was endearing to watch Lizzy walk - V had spent a few months in the colony now but had never gotten used to quite how little the worker drones were. V flicked her tail - it was cute endearing how much sass Lizzy had (like Uzi did, although the scene girl showed it in her own way) for someone of such small stature.
Maybe the next two weeks could be…tolerable.
The gang goes on a camping trip (or is it?) and V makes a romantic realisation about a certain blonde worker drone.
