Summary
Mags was meant to keep her head down in the Reaping. Don’t look the peacekeepers in the eye or even the mayor for that matter. Don’t sign up for tesserae. Work dutifully, not defiantly. You don’t want to increase your chances of being reaped. But she clears the board by making a move that no other has made before her: Mags volunteers to be a tribute.
Lucy Gray has faded into mystery like her namesake. While the district wants to forget about their first victor, Barb Azure refuses to let the memory of her beloved cousin die. But halfway through her campaign to keep Lucy Gray’s legacy immortal, Barb Azure’s name is read aloud on stage, sentencing her to suffer the same trials and tribulations the victor overcame shortly before her disappearance.

Summary
The first in a series of short pieces set around the 70th Hunger Games which Annie Cresta won. At this time Finnick Odair is about nineteen years old and Mags is in her seventies. In the books she's mentioned as having largely raised Finnick. The films show another three male Victors in the background of Finnick's 75th Hunger Games Reaping, but their names are not given. It is mentioned in the books that the children of previous Victors have been taken, often enough that it's been noted. District Four is mentioned as a Career District in the books but not in the films. I've decided they do have an Academy but they are also one of the most rebellious Districts, so it's not a system driven by loyalty to the Capitol. It seemed plausible that it's been driven by Mags as the oldest of the surviving Victors, and maybe as a small act of rebellion on her part - to try and fight back against the Capitol system and give District Four's kids a fighting change. Finally, I wanted to explore the mindset of a woman who was tough enough to win the Hunger Games, and keep functioning within the system for 60 ish years, but managed to retain enough integrity for Haymitch to describe her a 'wonderful person'.

Summary
“You don't have to,” she said, “I’d forgive you.” She wasn't sure if they would kill her, if they'd keep her alive and just slaughter his family. She knew he'd blame himself, regardless of who died. So she had to let him know that she could never be angry with him.
Finnick shook his head, “Don’t say that.” He turned around, and headed back upstairs to his room. Mags wondered for a moment if she could bribe him to eat with some coffee. They let him have it on his victory tour, and he had been begging for some ever since.

Summary
“Mags Flanagan!”
I felt my face pale. That was my name she had just called, wasn’t it?
“Mags, where are you, dear?” She asked, smiling slightly “Come on up!”
I felt my body go on autopilot as I made my way to the stage, looking down as I felt all eyes on me. I wished to curl up into a hole and die, right then and there.
