Summary
Atkins unknowingly pushes the Captain past his limits. Later, the Captain achieves simultaneous consciousness with the Hell Priest in a desperate situation, unwittingly revealing how much sympathy he has for damned souls and that he considers both them and himself to be human. The Hell Priest can't stand this, so he forces the Captain through a simulation to reinforce his identity as a Cenobite and remove his sympathy for damned souls.

The Elysium Configuration cut off half of Earth and the Mars colony from Hell, and Merchant is still out there and could cut off the rest of humanity from Hell. Leviathan charges Pinhead to convince Merchant to build a Lament Configuration even bigger than the Minos Elysium Configuration, to undo the damage.
