Summary
On January 21st, 2004, Beyond Birthday fakes his death to avoid the serial killer known only as Kira. In order to keep an eye on L, he hides out in Japan. He doesn't particularly care about any of this Kira crap, at least now that his "death" means he's safe from suffering any magical heart attacks. Then, on April 25th, Misa Amane sends in her second tape to Sakura TV, and breaks his entire worldview. Now it's a race against L (not that the detective knows it) to find the second Kira. To find the only other person in the world who shares his eyes.

Light was laying, blindfolded and arms chained to the side, in a room he didn’t know where, on a bed he had yet to leave, wheezing with every breath, most likely nursing broken ribs. When Ryuk had sold him out (the motherfucker) post Higuchi, Aizawa had quickly lost his cool, and before the policeman had been pulled off of Light, he’d been incapacitated enough to be unable to protest as L said he’d make sure Kira would never kill again.
