Being a younger sibling means having a lot of expectations to live up to.
Lee learned to read when he was four, so I needed to learn how to read at that age, too. Lee could tie his shoes by the time he was six, so I needed to be able to tie my shoes by then, too. So of course, when Lee set out on the Gym Challenge at ten years old and won the Champion Cup on his first try… Well, my family expected me to be able to do the same.
For as much as Hop looks up to Leon, he always seems to fall short of the expectations placed on him as Leon's little brother. Never has that been more apparent to him than when he tries taking on the Gym Challenge. Constantly comparing himself to his brother isn't doing his self-esteem any favors…but then again, neither is keeping all these feelings to himself.
(Or, five times Hop felt like a failure, and the one time someone told him he wasn't.)
