Gwaine mumbled something into his shoulder that Merlin didn’t quite catch.
“What was that?” He asked very quietly.
Gwaine pulled back just far enough to say it again, “You were dead. You died.” He was a bit taken aback at that.
“I’m almost positive I didn’t.” He said trying to lighten the mood by gesturing to himself in a “see” kind of way,
“You did. You stopped breathing, You were freezing. The other knights left for their chambers. They couldn’t bear it here. Not while you were…” Gwaine's voice broke before he finished the sentence.
Or in which a chicken save Lance and all of Camelot and nobody dies. Kind of.

Summary
What would have happened if Merlin had never been healed magically after the Dorocha attack? I find it a little convenient that Lancelot manages to set Merlin down by a river where some kind of spirit (Villia) is able to emerge in a bubble and heal him. So, I wrote what might have happened if Merlin had never been healed by magic at all. Warning: Angst may ensue.
