    Summary

“Track him, corner him, subdue him… just like we would with any dangerous creature.”

“Not a creature, Arthur. Just Merlin.”

Merlin wasn’t supposed to hear them—but now he’s running, heart pounding, as the knights of Camelot—his friends—close in. They’d sounded so certain, so cold. He didn’t stop to ask how or why, he just ran. Now he doesn’t know where he’s going, only that he has to keep moving.

    Summary

“Calm yourself,” Gaius finally says. “You’re alright. Gwaine is alright. Do you remember what happened?”

Merlin’s brows furrow and his gaze flickers through the chambers until it lands on Arthur. He tilts his head, the confusion on his face only growing.

He asks, “I’m sorry, have we met?” and Arthur’s world not only stops, but crumbles.

Things have finally been going well in Camelot; Arthur knew about Merlin's magic, their relationship had been changing, and their plans for Albion—even if for now only shared with a trusted group—were almost too good to be true.

Then an attack leaves Merlin without his memories since Uther's death and, strangely enough, of Arthur specifically, and Arthur's world threatens to come crashing down once more.

    Summary

Arthur bites back another sigh. Gwen already told them, smiling and unknowing, that they would have to share a room because the hotel was so booked already, and they wouldn’t mind, would they, after they had shared a room and a flat for so long at university?

He’d survive, somehow. They had shared a room and later a flat, after all. Maybe he hadn’t been a pathetic, pining mess back then, but there’d still be two beds, and it was only three nights.

Three weeks ago, Arthur ended their friends with benefits arrangement because he'd done what everyone tells you not to do and caught feelings. And alright, maybe he didn't exactly go about it in the best of ways, but he thinks having to share a bed with Merlin for three nights is a rather harsh punishment, even for karma's proportions.

    Summary

“Right,” the stranger says, and nods sagely. “So you’re a bit of an arse, then?”

    “I’m not,” Arthur says, strangled.

“Clearly,” says the stranger in an oddly cheerful tone, and sticks out his hand. “I’m Merlin. I can keep this very short. I’ve spent four years as a barista in another coffee shop, then went to art school, failed utterly and horribly, and now I’m back to being a barista. I’m a hard worker and am immune to people shouting at me, because I’m a starving artist, which means I know how to deal with negative feedback very well. So. That’s me. I didn’t bring a CV, sorry.”

Or: In a final bid to find happiness after leaving his job at his father's company, Arthur opens a coffee shop. Merlin just wants to make latte art.

    Summary

“Merlin!” he calls out, and nearly falls over himself to take the three remaining steps to his manservant. He breathes hard, putting a hand on the raw, red material of Merlin’s tunic. There is something under there.

A head peeks out, and blue eyes stare at him.

“Who are you?” a child demands, with Merlin’s familiar eyes and a mop of dark hair falling over his forehead, and two ears sticking out from his face. “How d’you know my name? Are you a knight?”

“Oh, no,” Arthur says, in what he thinks is a very apt assessment of the situation.
