'Whoever this is better have a good reason for calling me,' he thought furiously, fumbling for the answer button. “Hello?” he said. “This is Miles Edgeworth.”

Summary
After Phoenix falls off a bridge and nearly dies, Miles decides to do something he never thought he would: ask Phoenix out. Their relationship starts out well, but Miles isn't the most open of individuals, and a long-instilled fear of how others will react to their relationship keeps him hesitant about even mild shows of affection where others can see. As things progress and their lives change, Miles decides to take a family vacation to somewhere no one knows Phoenix Wright or Miles Edgeworth, and the likelihood of anyone caring about a gay couple with a child is smaller. Summary
Getting over one's doomed romantic feelings for Phoenix Wright was a simple task: give the man polite distance, focus on one's career, and contemplate a Phoenix Wright-less version of the future where one was somehow happy.
Notice that these steps did not include pushing a shopping cart alongside Phoenix Wright, trading flowers with Phoenix Wright's young daughter, or going to Phoenix Wright's home to celebrate Phoenix Wright's stupid, endlessly endearing made-up holiday.
Miles did this to himself. He deserved it.
