The only solace he had ever felt since his mother’s death was Xie Lian. He had lived less when he was actually alive. And now In death he finally gets to bask in that solace ever day.
But now that solace is being invaded. Ripped from his grasp, and dipped in poison. Now the feeling of soft hands and loving praise makes him want to curl up in shame and cry. He doesn’t deserve gentle, he doesn’t even deserve rough either. He just doesn’t deserve.

The vines tightened minutely. It wasn't enough to cause any degree of pain. It was like someone was holding his arm and gripping a little tighter, as though he were trying to move away and they were doing what they could to stop him without injury.
"Is this… do you want me to stay?" Hua Cheng asked. The vines remained just as taut against his skin, but the tips of them moved, sliding around his fingers as if threading them together. His heart fluttered, and he whispered, "Okay. I'll sleep here tonight."
