Nile has already gotten used to the fact that Nicky is always the first to start the day and the lightest sleeper. But after a long mission she finds herself learning new things about Nicky and her new family.

Julie reads each gravestone she passes, learning the faceless names of people gone by, wondering whether their ghosts are stuck on this side, trapped by some unfinished business.
She sucks in a breath, smoothing the nonexistent wrinkles in her dress.

The Legos, those didn’t fit, they were wobbly and they fell over and over, and they were still frustrating. But the music - the music was solid and steady, and at this point, Reggie was pretty sure he wasn’t the only one keeping an eye on that and everything else. It wasn’t just him waiting to scramble in making sure things were okay - now, Alex and Luke were there, too. They were standing guard, building him up and making sure that he stayed safe.
(Or: Reggie deals with the frustrations of undiagnosed learning disabilities and parents one fight away from a divorce. Luckily, life has much more to offer.)

It was strange, then, that he was on the run without Uncle, officially a traitor to his homeland, and for the first time since his mother left, he woke in the night sandwiched between bodies, feeling safe.

"You're enjoying this," Sara says. They've made it halfway around the rink and Sara's starting to feel steady enough to look around at the lights, the mirror ball, the spectacle of the roller disco. It's after hours, technically illegal but that means they have the place to themselves.
(There's a lecture in the back of Sara's mind, Rip's voice lecturing her on appropriate uses of a time ship and how going to another era for a date is hardly one of those, but. Maybe if Rip had ever had Kendra smile at him like this, he'd understand.)
Kendra's grin gets a little wider. She winks, then pulls Sara by her arms with a jerk and does something with her skates at the same time. Kendra stops and Sara rolls forward into her arms, bracing her hands on Kendra's hips with a forcefulness that's more fear of falling than desire. "I am," Kendra mumbles.
