He looks into Toothless’s eyes, and they’re very different than the last time Hiccup looked at him like this, when they were both drowning. The whites of his eyes are…actually white, now, instead of that marbled grass color. His huge, expressive oval pupils are smaller, round, and his irises are a very pale green.
It’s disturbing, wrong—he doesn’t look like himself, like a dragon. They’re just so…human.
Hiccup’s stomach jolts. Trembling, he turns to his dad.
The colors in the room are a lot duller than he’s used to, but he can still tell that Toothless’s new eyes, while larger, resemble Stoick’s exactly.
Like Hiccup’s….used to do.
Hiccup puts his head in his hands. “What is going on?”

In which Astrid got to the cove just a few minutes too late, and Hiccup had already left. In which, six years later, the dragon raids are a thing of the past, but now a madman with a dragon army is threatening Berk. In which Astrid, now heir to the Chiefdom, convinces Stoick to ask the mysterious Dragon Master for help.
Hiccup obliges. It's his fight, after all.
However, he may have forgotten to anticipate how hard it would be to prepare for war alongside his old friends and family without letting them know it was him. But then again, what other choice does he have?
Toothless is finding the whole situation highly amusing.

For the last two years, a figure on the back of dragons had been a thorn in Viggo's side. It was always the same dragon and the same rider, but no matter what, they couldn't catch the man who was costing them so many shipments of goods and supplies. Anytime the Hunters were in the perceived territory with dragons they were raided by more than just one. More than once while the dragons worked on releasing their kin, the rider would jump onto one of the ships. They were a small little thing, and a few times, they had gotten their hands on him. Only to have the Rider's dragon attack and get his Rider out of the sticky situation. The only information they had on the Rider was that he was a 'he', he had auburn hair and pale. Nothing else. Not even his damn name and it irritated the hell out of Viggo.
Then as quickly as he'd come, the Rider was gone. No raids, no sight of him in months. Until the Nightfury was seen carrying what appeared to be a bleeding body. Viggo gave the order to bring them down alive. Only to find a badly injured teenager who had a new amputation and an exhausted dragon.
