If that’s alright with you,” explains Tim airly, as if he weren’t perfectly aware that it’s absolutely an extreme divergence from his original request. Which had been sexual in many ways but had drawn the line at penetration. It just hadn’t felt right to him.

A murmured agreement arose from the congregation. Babes in the womb were given this warning by their expectant mothers. As children they would recite it by rote, failing to grasp the seriousness of the threat. Of the greater implications of the world they inhabited.
Of what monsters waited for them. Of what monsters they could become.

“S.S.A. Lan,” he corrected.
“Do you do all your paperwork by hand? What century are you stuck in?!”
“One with appropriate documentation and administrative protocols,” he said primly.
In truth, he did most of his work on a computer. But watching the horror spread across S.S.A. Wei’s face when he pulled out several ancillary forms was absolutely worth the extra work.
