Summary
The god, manifestation of light and purity itself, didn’t have a literal blinding smile anymore. His smiles were different. NOT that Hermes was worried or anything. If Apollo needed help, he had dozens of children, lovers, and followers to go to. Hermes didn’t need to assist with that. But, well, Apollo hadn’t spoken to him much at all since the trials. That’s what really caught Hermes' attention.
And he’d tried to apologize for the whole bet thing.

OR: Hermes had just wanted to play a prank on Apollo to catch his attention. Bad attention was better than no attention after all. Except the prank went horribly wrong and ended up crashing through Zeus' wall. Instead of scolding Hermes to the moon and back, he turned his fury on Apollo, as if it were his fault. Hermes just happened to be hiding outside the door, catching something he was never supposed to see.

The sensation was subtle at first. A slight drag, like trying to swim upstream. I pushed harder, pouring more energy into the ascension, and the drag increased to match. Then doubled. Then tripled.
This wasn't right.
Or: Apollo falls into Tartarus and discovers his terrible, terrible relatives left him a really uncomfortable inheritance plan.
