Luna’s soft voice cut through the night like butter, the concern that would’ve shone in his eyes ringing through his voice, “It’s the middle of the night, why are you up?”
Earth shrugged, or the best he could while still staring at the ground, taking a second to get his voice to work so he didn’t so absolutely pathetic, “Can’t sleep.” Alright, well he probably could’ve put a little more liveliness in his tone because he sounded so dead—his voice low and rumbly and so slow. Just like his mind from the goddamn migraine! Ugh!!!

“Why would I hold a grudge?” Neptune blinked at him, one eye at a time, smile completely static. “And why would I hate you?”
Did he ever stop smiling?
“There’s no use in that!” He wiggled his fingers and spun around him, and Erebus followed without meaning to, spinning once before he realized what he was doing and rooted in place. “Grudges only make everything hurt worse.”

Neptune was a lot of things.
Silly. Flexible. Really good at math. Introspective. Ice giant. Planet. Blue. Not bound by the confines of reality.
But one of the things Neptune also was, one of the things people often didn't connect back to Neptune was that he was a protector.
Sure, maybe in regards to his orbit and the Kuiper Belt but considering his mental state it was easy to write him off on that.
But Neptune was good at protecting the others from other things, or at least... tries to.
Sometimes at the expense of himself.
OR: 3 times Neptune smiled and tried to protect someone at his own expense, 1 time he questioned if it was enough, and the 1 time he finally cracked.
