Flynn kept his promise to his beloved son. Flynn, who brought Sam to the grid to celebrate his son's birthday, introduced Sam to Clu and Tron. Having met the existence that he had only heard about in person, Sam was happy spending time with the two programs with his eyes shining. Clu, who had been looking at Sam in a grave manner, soon fell in love with him like Flynn. Otherwise, he would never lose his smile by having Sam by his side, telling him everything, listening to Sam's story, and playing with him, right?
Flynn learned the lesson too late that not everything goes his way. Looking at Clu, who offered him a deal he couldn't refuse as he hold unconscious Sam in his arms, Flynn regretted his past, realizing how little he had known Clu.

Mike huffs. “What’s that s’pposed to mean?”
Lucas stares deadpan at him.
“Dude, the guy right there? Looks exactly like you. Just, like, less nerdy and stuff. Kind of less boney, too. I don’t wanna read too much into it, but… well, if you’re gonna have a sexuality crisis, you might as well do it before the end of the world.”

They won the battle and killed Vecna. El died in the aftermath. Oh, and Mike is a fantasy author living in Indianapolis in the 1990s. Somehow, it’s all connected.
