“Tt, you sound like you’re proposing.” Damian said sarcastically and rolled his eyes, giving up for now, Jon would eventually let him go. Right?
“Ah!” Jon gasped excited and the arms around Damian tightened slightly and Jon hopped the both of them in place a few times. “We should!”
“Huh?” Damian asked, holding onto Jon to stabilize himself out of instinct.
“We should get married.” Jon said like it was completely obvious.
“…what?” Damian sputtered and looked at the boy, he was joking right? What a thing to say, it was probably that childish notion more than anything. “We are children.”
“When we grow up, silly!” Jon grinned, that wasn’t a no! He would always get to be Damian’s best friend if they were married, that’s how marriage was! Married to your best friend.

It starts back when Jon was ten and Damian was eleven, with one silly conversation that eventually followed them through the years, the up and downs and everything in between. Maybe it was a joke, maybe it was promise, but what it ended up being was far greater.

Make it your world, he repeated unconsciously in his mind, and all Jon heard before he even realized he had blocked out everything else and taken in that one sound was Damian's heartbeat. It had crept softly into his ears, punctuated by a constant "tum-ta" that Jon had never realized was always next to him until that moment, and it was with his eyes closed and focused on that sound that he bent to his knees and jumped, jumped higher than he had ever done before, and opened his eyes as the world around him disappeared and the landscape became just a golden sea engulfed by the blue sky.Bookmarked by BiScarletFire
