    Peter heard everything.

    He’s pulled through the city, from the top of the tower, through the park and the laundromat, coffeeshop, he’s pulled through the subway, past racing cars deep into his classroom as the metal clatters against the floor followed by a sharp intake of air from the student falling shocked by another sudden noise. The blaring fire alarm so loud that everything else is drowned out.

    So loud, that he can’t even hear himself think, as his classmates push their chair back and gets up.

    It really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Peter Parker that today was going be rough. He’d felt it the second his eyes had snapped open that morning. The alarm being just a little louder, the coffee being just a little stronger. And the usually soft touch from his aunt May having caused him to flinch like he’d been stung by a wasp.

    And from there it had grown.

    "Is everything okay?" he asked, hoping that the boy would talk, or at least give a non-verbal hint about what was bothering him.

    Peter shrugged his shoulders, not sure how to answer that. The truth is, the boy had been feeling off most of the week. Ned had missed school since Tuesday as he was sick at home, and though he and May had a couple of movie nights filled with cuddles, it never seemed enough, most likely since the woman worked more hours towards the end of the year. Still, he couldn't quite describe what was wrong, only that he felt… empty.
