It occurs to him now that he is still in his office, having slept on the couch, and that the attorney currently laying on the hardwood hadn’t left in the following hours. “Are you alright?"

Summary
They’re calling him ‘the world’s savior’. He may have tried to destroy it first, and he may have cleaved the moon in half, but when it came down to it, Doctor Robotnik chose to sacrifice his own life to save everyone on earth. The people who shut him out. Rejected him. Resented him. Thanks to him, life goes on. Thanks to him, humanity still has a world to live on.
Stone’s world, though, floats outside of earth’s atmosphere, nothing but space dust among the stars. Robotnik may have steered the laser away from the planet, but it still blew Stone’s world into a thousand tiny pieces.

She almost doesn’t hear the actual answer. “And though I have no doubt a thousand people have given this answer before, I did nothing. I was doing my job, and then I was here. No trial. No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”

“You look ridiculous, by the way,” Viktor says. He gestures toward Jayce with a deliberate wave of his hand. "The beard. And the hair."
Jayce blinks. “What?”
“It is overgrown. You look like a poorly maintained garden.”
“Are you calling me a shrub?”
“It is not the worst thing," Viktor teases, wry. Then his smirk fades into something more thoughtful. “You have … changed, yes. You are rougher around the edges now. You look—” He hesitates, words faltering before settling on, “—like you have lived.”
And Jayce wonders how much longer he’ll be able to hold himself back.
