Summary
Mark one year post rehab, Langdon just want the day to past by, but Mel King had other plans.
A pirate-wrapped gift, a terrible note, and one vintage pocket knife later, Frank thinks the hardest part of his day might be surviving Mel’s sense of humor.
Then the ER goes into lockdown.
When a white supremacist group storms the trauma wing with their wounded leader, they refuse to trust Dr. Al-Hashimi and demand that Langdon operate instead. Not because he is the right doctor for the job, but because he is the kind of man they want to believe in.
Trapped between armed extremists, terrified patients, and the ugliest kind of trust, Frank has to survive the day without becoming the symbol they want him to be.

See, he knew, was the thing. He knew. He knew the minute he heard the screaming, because he knew that screaming. Maybe all children’s screams sounded the same to everyone else, but he knew his kids.
He knew what it sounded like when they were scared, or alone, or upset.
Robby, rolling the gurney, said, “Isn’t this—”
And Dana, nearby, said, “Aren’t they—”
And Abby, with a head injury and a crushed leg and lacerations covering her face and arms and chest cried, “Robby? Robby you have to find Frank, you have to—”
Langdon ran, because what else was he going to do.

She stares at her phone helplessly, then looks back to Robby.
“Fuck,” he barks out. “Fuck. Fine, I’ll…I’ll go figure something out.”

Her phone dings one more time.

Summary
Trinity enjoyed the roof of PTMC. It was quiet, away from everything, a place you could stand and think. After a rough shift, she goes up there to clear her head before going home, and finds out she's not the only one that had that thought. Someone else is up there, on the wrong side of the railing, and she has a decision to make.
Or; Santos finds Langdon on the roof, too close to the edge for comfort. He talks and reveals, she listens and reflects, and hopefully, things might end up a little better than before.

Summary
"Dr. Langdon, you have to keep your eyes open."
Frank knew something was wrong. His body’s reactions were telling him that. He knew he had to stay conscious. But as time kept passing, his joints sent signals of pain.
Robby, whatever happens, please forgive me.
Frank could only say it in his mind. And the next second, darkness enveloped Frank Langdon’s world.

Summary
Santos lets out a tight smile at the way his eyes glaze over - as if searching a bank of information that should’ve been in her employee records. ”Not like Langdon.” She clarifies. ”I used to hurt myself. That’s it.” There’s more but maybe another day, or time, when she might be able let someone in. She decides for herself. ”I’m not saying that you should go back to being best-friends or that this situation is good for either of you.” Santos lets out a surprised scoff.

Summary
The words Trinity was thinking were out of her mouth before she could consider them. “I just didn’t want him to touch me again.”
“Again?” His voice was suddenly spiked with alarm, so much so that Trinity couldn’t quite decipher his confusion for a second longer than she should’ve. “He’s done this before?”
“No, not him,” she clarified, then raised her left hand to make the vague outline of a man in the air. “I mean. Him.”
Langdon looked at the blank space she had gestured to, like it might explain what she meant. He sounded wary as he said, “Okay, Santos.”

He twisted in place, craning his neck back, his expression shifting from surprise to something unreadable.
“What are you doing up here?” she asked, stepping up to the railing, placing her palms against it, and leaning forward.
He blinked. “Could ask you the same question.” He said it mildly; he wasn’t wrong.

Summary
“Uh… Langdon,” she calls, going for the first person she catches sight of. He likes Mel. “A word?”
“Is it fast, because I have two patients who are getting pretty antsy with me,” he asks her.
They’re not on the best of terms, but they work together fine. Now they have a common interest. “I don’t know if it was just a faulty reading, or a—a fluke, or what, but King’s in with a kid right now who’s really anxious, so she was demonstrating some of the workup—”
“I said fast, Santos,” he says, concern catching in his brow at the mention of Mel’s name.
“Her pulse ox was 92.” She has to swallow back… something. Nervousness, maybe. Concern if she were to convince herself she cared that much. “When she demonstrated the pulse oximeter, her pulse ox was 92.”
Mel struggles to eat; the others notice. No one's loud about it, but no one has to be.

Summary
In which Langdon is injured, and Robby is forced to reflect.
-Excerpt-
Doctor Michael Robinavitch was a teacher, a mentor, and an attending, but most of all, he was a coward.
He would never stare vulnerability in the eye, until it had broken him and beaten him blue. His cold brittle heart would never beat until it was shattered, sending shrapnel into his bones.
He could not dare to care, not after all this time. He couldn’t dare to open his heart after it had already been broken. It had only barely been patched together again.

Summary
Her stomach jolts at his words, something cold spreading through her bloodstream so fast it makes her fingertips tingle. No.
His hand tightens around her neck, and she thinks that it’s overkill, really, because she’s not sure that she’d be able to breathe even if it wasn’t there, even if she didn’t just get essentially body slammed by what felt like a football linebacker. His other hand is moving lower, squeezing and grabbing roughly at her stomach, her hips, her thigh.
And she’s trained for this. She’s planned for this. She’s thought through this scenario in her head, so many times, what she would do if it happened again. She takes Krav Maga, for fuck’s sake.
But she can’t breathe, and she can’t move, and she’s 12 years old again.

Summary
"I was friends with his son, remember?" Langdon placed a hand on the back of his neck, hanging it there with a sigh. "His dad, Rob, Robert, liked to do um, private tutoring."
Trinity picked up on the intention behind that phrase in a second, a fiberglass splinter dug into her palm that nothing would get out. All he was doing was pressing on the remnants, not even a dot to show for it but a bruised memory all the same.
She felt like she'd been dried out in the sun, and he was only half looking at her, brows sewn together with sinew thread and nerve endings, voice paper rough. "He, he uh.. fuck, you'd think after enough time it would get easier to say, huh?"
I get what you've gone through to get here.
========
Being stuck in an elevator already sucked, Trinity had decided. Throw in Langdon, his inability to just stay still, and her incessant need to know how other people perceive her, and you end up getting much, much more than you bargained for.
Or; Santos and Langdon get stuck in an elevator, and find out they're much more alike than either of them would've liked in experiences with predatory sports coaches.
