He bites The Blade of Frontiers: famed monster hunter, purger of the evil and the damned, and aside from the occasional flirtation, already not Astarion’s biggest fan.
It seemed like a fantastic idea at the time.
It starts well, goes terribly, and miraculously ends with everyone still alive.

Summary
An invalided ex-army medic sits in a bedsit with only about four changes of clothes, his sister’s old phone, and a gun to his name. He thinks the situation would have turned out funnier if he’d been walking into a bar. Walking into a bar jokes were usually at least an ironic sort of humorous.
Or: John decides to kill himself right before the events of canon. The universe ensures Holmes and Watson still meet, as it is wont to do. It’s not as tragic as it sounds (or it is, but they’re very british about it)

Summary
At this point in his life, John had come into the habit of expecting the unexpected. Going on a shopping run? Could be kidnapped at any moment. Leaving the surgery late? Don’t be surprised if you get shot in the foot.
Which is why; when strapped to a chair with a liberally applied roll of duct tape, John was not surprised to feel, more than anything, annoyed.
Or: John gets kidnapped, learns from previous mistakes regarding taking money from strangers, and realises he’s been hanging out with Sherlock too often.
