Summary
It could be a story about a realtor suffering from sudden amnesia, or maybe the local hero is the same weird guy from horror movies who buys haunted houses and / or former crime scenes. With the only nuance that, perhaps, the roles of the vengeful spirit and the victim were reversed.

Jason’s entire face went still.
Dick set down the plate. Slowly. “Guys—”
“You really want to bring that up?” Jason’s voice was low, tight. “You think I don’t remember? You think I forget that I nearly made the worst mistake of my life?”
“Funny, I thought that was the jacket.”
“Screw you.”
“I was fifteen!” Tim’s voice cracked slightly, high with fury. “I trusted you!”

Tim snapped at Jason and things went downhill from there.

That’s how the saying goes. Take enough punches from the universe and eventually it becomes harder and harder to pop back up, to see the worth in fighting back, to stop yourself from turning around and delivering some punches of your own.

“Appendicitis,” Tim breathed in disbelief. “Are you fucking kidding me?”
