Zoey whined as she bared her teeth, rolling her hips against nothing even as she pressed back, squirming, fighting, snapping and growling, and–
"Do not show me your teeth unless you're actually ready to use them."
Zoey froze.
The satin fabric of a business suit pressed roughly against her skin; the sharp weight of an elbow dug into her shoulder; the fist in Zoey's hair gripped tight, a searing, relentless pull.
What she noticed most of all, though, were the fangs.
"Are you done?" Celine's voice was clipped, sharp as a blade and twice as cold, just like her daughter. "Or do you need a firmer hand?"
Just like her daughter, she smelled extra sweet.

Rumi recoiled, her trembling arms dragging up into a fragile gesture of surrender. And then she saw it, the glow. The dark sigils blazing across the backs of her own hands, pulsing like molten veins. Zoey’s blood streaked her skin in broken lines, smearing across those marks like a cruel reminder of what she had done. She could feel the patterns burning beneath the fabric of her hoodie, heat crawling up her arms, snaking along her throat, spreading everywhere until it felt like her whole body was branded from the inside out.
Rumi’s throat worked, but no words came. Or maybe they didn’t matter anymore. Because what Mira saw, what was written across her skin, was enough.

Summary
Celine was put in an impossible situation. Run the Sunlight Sisters record label, try to keep demons out of the world in the absence of two hunters, and raise a child that wasn't hers, all on her own.
Oh, and of course, just to add to the difficulty of her situation, the kid is half demon. She's lucky she's so stinking cute.

I've seen so many stories completely villainizing Celine, which I'm totally interested in exploring don't get me wrong, but I also disagree that that's how she is in canon. She's a lot more complex than that, I think. That being said, this ALSO isn't based on canon. This is Celine doing a better job at being the parent Rumi needed.
Also note that the first chapter is a prologue and not really in the style that the rest of the fic will be written in, it's just like that for atmosphere!

Summary
Mira had always been a skeptic. Not superficially, but firmly. A convinced atheist, someone who refused to waste time imagining the unreal. Spirits, monsters, supernatural beings — those had always seemed to her the product of fear, ignorance, or the human desire for easy explanations.
The world, to her, worked by clear rules, even if complex ones. Everything had a cause. Everything could, in theory, be explained.
She was a skeptic.
So how could she explain a purple-haired woman, striped, with a tiger’s tail, unconscious in her backyard?
