Summary
Orange and the Animator have been working hard to improve their strained relationship for a while now and things have gotten pretty good. Orange feels seen and heard and the Animator feels like maybe he can be the parent his child needs. However, when the Animator's past comes crashing back in the worst way possible, it'll put their whole relationship in jeopardy. The past only stays dead and buried for so long. And now Orange and his newfound family have found themselves thrust in the middle of a terrible battle they might not be able to escape from unscathed.
An adapted take on the familiar events of AVA/AVM in a Modern Fantasy Human AU.

He placed his hand on his side just under his ribs, feeling the sting of pain as his glove made contact. And when he pulled his hand away, his glove was slick with blood.
His eyes widened from under the mask and he sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth and covered his side again, allowing himself only a moment to slouch as the adrenaline from battle started to wear off. The pain in his side throbbed with the beating of his heart and he wondered how he didn’t even notice that he had been stabbed until just now. Surely he would have noticed when whoever had done it got the upper hand on him.
