Summary
Yunli descends upon an icy planet to hunt for one of her father's cursed swords, but also to avoid apologizing to her grandpa's former student for a fight HE started. While down there, she runs into a Xianzhou native who seems to have no idea that the Xianzhou Alliance even exists. Together, they hunt down the flaming sword terrorizing his planet and learn the truth behind his origins which coincidentally serves as a pretty good peace offering for Yunli.
AKA Yanli Tangled AU sort of kind of. Very loosely based off of it but also super tightly based off of it. It'll make sense if you read it trust me.

“Who are you?”
Xingqui’s face bore a nervous smile as he was held at the other end of a great sword emitting a frosty aura. Amber eyes looked up at the light-haired boy illuminated by the moonlight within the bamboo forests, the boy who was suspiciously glowering at him with sharp eyes.
With his hands raised to the air and his sword down on the forest floor, Xingqui could only maintain a polite smile as he shot back to the mysterious boy.
“If I were to say I am an ordinary civilian strolling about, will you put down the broad sword?”

Hoshina laughs, a smile on his face. Always the smile.
Kafka never wants that smile to disappear.
“Okonogi-chan worries too much. I’m fine.” Hoshina says, the grimace on his face suggesting otherwise however.
“Will all due respect, vice-captain, I disagree with you.” Kafka says and gently lowers Hoshina onto the ground, keeping an ear out for the honju. The last thing he wants is for it to sneak up on them. “What happened?”

Hoshina drops out of contact and Kafka absolutely does not race after him.

"His job is to cut a path for his captain, but when does that job become obsolete? More and more kaiju were trending toward Giants, would there come a time when the only miniature ones were the yoju? And even then, the rookie officers from that year alone were more than capable of handling any of the yoju thrown their way.
Hoshina didn’t put much stock into things like fate, but was this always meant to be his final stand against the kaiju? It wasn’t a satisfying end, proving everyone who had doubted him right. But endings in life rarely were, he supposed.
And so, when Kafka Hibino went sprinting past him and the Captain, Hoshina's mind was already made up."
