Maybe it was the fact that there was nothing dramatic about it. They didn't fall out. There wasn't a moment or a reason or anything that Imogen could pin down, nothing concrete to point at and say that is where I lost her.
The process of losing hadn't even been visible, but it had happened all the same. It had to be described as loss—Imogen couldn't explain this feeling in any way other than grief.
