Wriothesley chokes. Half of Fontainian society communicates via the unspoken language of flowers, using bouquets to augment or even subvert their messages. “I wouldn’t call it a passing trend,” Wriothesley manages, strangled.
Wriothesley teaches Neuvillette the subtle political art of floriography, and Neuvillette takes the opportunity to communicate more privately with the Duke.

“I’m in a three-piece suit,” Wriothesley replies dryly. He spreads his arms wide and does a turn on his heel. “Am I presentable?” He knows the answer.
Is not surprised when Neuvillette says, “Hardly.”
Neuvillette helps Wriothesley clean himself up for a wedding.
