He grabs on to their hand, fighting through the smoke and haze, ignoring how his muscles scream in protest and his eyes sting, but it fades to nothing when D3rlord3 touches them again, something unreachable finally in his arms and he can't lose them, he can't—
“Stay,” he croaks out, begging.

D3rlord3 survives the King in Yellow, but he's forgetting someone important. It doesn't help that the person he's forgetting seems so adamant on staying forgotten.

Derek Hutchins was not meant to wake up. He'd already accepted that. His only goal was to save Avery and he'd done that. There wasn't supposed to be an "after." So, when he does wake up, somehow able to function with both the weight of infinite knowledge and the King In Yellow screaming in his head, he's a bit surprised. But no matter.
