"Silly as it sounds, Korra thought that the next best thing to do was to just continue to walk with Asami asleep in her arms. Sure, it was in the middle of the night and the walk was about an hour away. As inconvenient as this seemed, it felt extremely convenient for Korra.
So she walked and walked, taking an unlimited amount of time to admire Asami. She could swear that Asami was dreaming of something nice, because she had a small smile on her face as she slept peacefully in the Avatar’s arms.
“I’ll protect you.” Korra said to her in a whisper. She squeezed Asami tighter as she made her promise to her and walked to Air Temple Island."

Full summary will be below, at the head of the first chapter. New to LOK. This is a modern AU. This is mostly a field test. I posted some of this on FF.net, but unsure how or if it's actually faring. Found some time to try this; new to AO3 as well. I landed on the title Inevitable.
Basically...
Korra and Asami have been near each other all of their lives, but don't actually meet or know of each other's existence until they're 18. Their parents have the answers to why. What happens when they finally do meet? They immediately begin to unravel each other's lives. They start to change each other, but Korra is a stubborn creature of habit. The origins of their connection will be revealed. Asami will undergo transformations and fill a lifelong void. Korra will learn that not everything is a fight, and that some things truly are inevitable. She won't be alone in her changes, nor will Asami. Their friends will experience their own alterations, and romances. But Korra and her 3 friends have had their fair share of crap and won't be tied back down so easily. That's the real challenge that Asami and her girlfriends must face. Four against four. Tough versus cute. Stout versus hot. How will it go?

Asami Sato is finally at the top, now the proud owner of Sato industries, after her fathers very public fall from grace. She single handedly managed to claw Sato industries back to the top. But what happens when Asami see's that that one girl from high school she despised has gotten a job in her company.
How can Asami push Korra, how can she prove that she has been succesful and Korra has failed.
Korra has finally managed to get a good job 3 years after dropping out of college to become the legal guardian of her little sister. She has spent too long working herself to the bone to keep herself and her sister afloat. The only downside is the owner Asami Sato her high school nemisis.

Korra had come as a mutual friend to one of the meet-ups 2 months ago and Asami has been denying the large crush she has on the woman and her large, bulky, arms.
Korra seems innocent and completely platonic, even when she stays after to read excerpts of her work to Asami who is in love with the type of writing Korra does.
Asami is perfectly fine with just being friends with Korra because nothing could ever happen between them.
Right?
