“I believe it’s high time you took a break, Chief,” Eleven says resolutely, making her way towards the Chief’s desk and leans in, her hand finding its way to cradle the other’s face, thumb brushing pale cheek, “Come home with me, darling?”
The Chief finds herself a little dazed, lost in Eleven’s golden eyes. Warm. She feels so warm. Her touch, her gaze, her voice. It all feels too warm. The chief leans into the touch as her eyes slip shut, savoring. With a shuddering breath, she finds her eyes drowning to liquid gold once again.
“Okay,” her own hand finds itself cupping the hand resting on her cheek, “Let’s go home.”

Chief turns at the unexpected voice. Raven lounges against the doorway, trademark emerald quill in hand, her signature inky-familiar surprisingly absent. The poet propels herself into the room and starts to talk before she can say anything.
“Burning the midnight oil already? I can't say the work ethic doesn't suit you, but what on Earth will I tell Nightingale when she asks if I'm making sure you take care of yourself?”
“That,” Chief says defensively, “is not what I'm doing. I just got distracted going over the lesson plan for tomorrow again, that's all. And besides, it's not midnight. It's not even that late.”

There, hidden amidst the swirling banks of fog and dazzling light of the Shackles, is a single, colourless series of chain links, barely visible against the sheen of its comrades.
Hesitantly, Chief moves her left hand up and down. Her connection to the other Shackles moves as well, each end terminating in the centre of her palm then weaving together and running up her arm like spectral vines.

But her eyes stand out more. They are a muted shade of turquoise, so pale they almost, almost look grey like the rest of her. And yet...Shalom feels like there is something within those eyes. A flicker, or a spark. Something that lights them up and makes them stand out against the incredibly drab and nondescript outfit of their owner.
Despite herself, something genuine begins to creep into Shalom's smile. Earlier, her curiosity was piqued. Now, it's her interest that's been roused. She waits.
“Hello,” the woman says. “I take it I have the privilege of talking to Shalom?”

The lock clicks open and Chief steps inside. Sterile containment cell lights flicker as the door shuts behind her. As expected, the figure behind the glass is already standing, waiting for her. Even through concrete and steel nothing seems able to defeat her sense of smell.
Mantis' antennae twitch. “Chief,” she chirps, voice distorted further by the thick glass.
