Despite how hard he tries, his mind always goes back to that night whenever he’s in that room. That horrible, horrible night. That night he picked up Abbot’s shift and worked the night for the first time in too long. The night he turned off his phone and missed the call. The night he watched the paramedics wheel a young man, a 26 year old kid, overdosed on a mix of antidepressants, alcohol, and benzodiazepines. The night he cracked Dennis’ ribs performing CPR when his heart failed him and then stayed at his bedside for hours after his shift ended. The first night he cried in the ED since Pittfest.
