Aleksander pulled him up unto his knees. “Don’t lie to me. My shadows have infiltrated you to your very core, you hold not secrets from me.” Then his face softened. “I cannot imagine the king was to happy learning of your designation. I understand why you hid it.”
“You understand nothing.”
It was Aleksander’s turn to smile. “I finally understand now how to reunite Ravka without any more bloodshed. If your first army and Alina’s Grishas want to follow a Lantsov so desperately then I shall become one.”
Alina frowned. “What are you…”
But Nikolai was several steps ahead of her. “I will never marry you.”
