A universe where scientists successfully bioengineered human evolution? 90% of the population now have altered genes with animal genes that gives them abilities somewhat similar to said animals. This makes them susceptible to both the pros and cons of their animal halves.
This altercation however did not lead to the birth of the catgirl fantasies of... some of our populace. Animal features only partially appear in the presence of a strong surge of emotion. It will only fully appear when in rut/heat. It also fully appears.... in other special circumstances.
