Summary
Dorian's long-time friend, Emmrich, has had his narrow yet bounteous ass dumped (again), and there's only one thing for it:
Goth Night at The Pawn Shop, the fourth-most popular gay bar in Minrathous, where he might hopefully meet a rebound (some fellow Mae and Varric know named Rook).
Only problem is: There's this annoying little punk buzzing around trying to pick up Emmrich, and Dorian is honor-bound to protect his friend.
A farce of queer friendship, verbose cattiness, Goth music, mistaken identities, eyeliner, tequila, and... love (ugh).

AU, eventually canon-ish.Varric doesn't reach Nevarra City until months after The War of Banners. Myrna and Vorgoth arrange a marriage to keep their foster-son home in the Necropolis amid the fallout. Rook wishes they'd asked his opinion on the matter, but Emmrich Volkarin could be worse, for a senior necromancer.

Rook freezes as he tries to roll over, to get out and back into his clothes and back to the meditation room where he'll curl up on that horrid lounge with an old pillow and a beautiful, hand-stitched blanket Varric had bought him in Perendale. He'd never asked for more because he won't get it.
Rook considers love and staying over for once.

Francis Crozier, in the time honoured tradition of the socially awkward that have come before him, has no idea how to ask James if he wants to spend time with him outside of work. That part of his life was easier before he was sober, he reflects, then winces internally. Well, not easier, no. Disastrous, in fact, but the actual getting-together part was easier. You had a drink (or two, or three) and you made your move. Now? Fuck if he knows.
Does James like going out for dinner? Probably. Will Francis ask him if he wants to do that near him? He would honestly rather die.
