are at the whim of the TARDIS, who seems to be insisting that this random American desert town is the most interesting place on Earth.It is a normal day in Night Vale. A blue box had appeared in the parking lot! Nobody really seems to be worried about it. This is very worrying to the people who came from within the blue box.

“Wylan Van Eck,” Jesper began, looking up into endless blue eyes that were welling up with realization. “Will you marry me?”
“WHAT?!” was Wylan’s response. Jesper saw most of their team freeze as Jesper’s question reached their ears. “I don’t think now is the best time, Jesper!”
“Now might be the only time!” Jesper tried to reason. “I’m not sure if any of us, much less all of us, are making it out tonight. And I want to call you my fiance before I die, if you’ll let me.” Jesper stood up, taking Wylan’s hand and looking into his eyes with hope.
Wylan stared back, with that calculating look he always got before making a wild decision. Scheming face, Ghezen he looked too much like Kaz sometimes. His lips parted, then closed as he looked down to the ring still in Jesper’s hand. Without another word, he slipped it onto his finger and opened his mouth to speak. He turned away and Jesper only just caught it, that prideful tilt he gets in his brow when he was about one up Jesper.
“INEJ,” Wylan shouted to helm. “MARRY US!”
“I’M A LITTLE BUSY AT THE MOMENT!!”

Wylan still wasn’t sure if he meant what he’d said. He missed Jesper like mad, but things had been getting worse and worse before that fight. In a way, it felt inevitable that it would end like this. They were two people that had never been all that compatible, and in the time that they’d shared, they’d both proven themselves irrevocably incapable of change.
He had an anger that couldn’t be sated. For so long, it had been dampened down, pushed out, swallowed, rejected. To let it rise only made himself sick. And yet, it appeared he could only digest it for so long. Like a cord pulling taut, it was destined to snap.

Then again, no one knew much about Kaz Brekker. They didn’t know he wasn’t from the Barrel or that he’d once had a family. They never guessed where the rasp in his young voice came from. They certainly didn’t know why he really wore gloves. Most weren’t even convinced he was human. No one ever suspected that Kaz Brekker was deaf.
*** Basically a random story of what if Kaz went deaf from the plague. It starts sort of pre-canon and has expanded. I am bad at summaries so read the first chapter if you want to get a feel for what this story is.

When the two of them meet again nearly a decade later, Wylan seemingly doesn't remember his childhood friend anymore. But Kaz never forgot the only person who had ever shown him and his brother genuine kindness.
