Reluctantly, I let him go, making myself comfortable under the duvet as he walked out of my bedroom. I stared at the ceiling as it stared back at me, waiting for him to come back for me and hold me through the coldest and darkest hours. The sound of the front door closing and locking echoed through the apartment and I broke down, ugly sobs filling the air and suffocating the sound of steps in the stairwell. My mistakes and failures looped in my head, a piercing kind of feedback that cut right through me. I clutched both my heart and my stomach, both hurting to the point that I thought I might pass out.

Took me a long time to read this but it was fucking worth it holy shit. This was probably the best a7x story I've read with an actual plot. 10/10
