In an instant, the chess piece pulls her tightly close to her body, Ragatha releases a gasp that forces a gentle whine. And she says nothing. She holds her. And she's so warm. The rag doll feels her body shiver. Her eye starts to sting again. No, No, I cant… almost instinctively, Queenie holds her tighter.
“I was never angry at you, Ragatha”
Rags feels her knees begin to buckle and she crumples to the floor, a bumbling, spluttering mess. She wasn't mad. She was never mad. This is all she ever asked for. Begging, to be able to shatter and have someone else pick up the pieces with the glue. She felt the sobbing subsiding, in her cocoon of embrace. Her face relaxed and softened into the velvet coat. Air filled, deep into her lungs, stretching her chest fully. It feels like this is the first time she's taken a breath all day. Her entire life.
OR
Ragatha is suddenly getting flashbacks of her mother, and feels like she cant function properly around queenie anymore. All the chess piece wants to do is help.

Summary
Ragatha is having difficulty readjusting to human life. It's been so long since she's been human, the circus is almost more real than reality. Until she has a moment when it all sinks in.
Just a little short fic based on the idea that pain is a different sensation in the circus than in real life.
While there is no intentional self harm here, I do go into detail in a way that could be triggering for people who struggle with that. Please be kind to yourself, and skip this if that applies to you.
No human name mentioned because renaming the characters feels wrong to me. No shade on anyone who does.

“Man, it’s really coming down out there. Should we be worried?” Jax asked. Kinger shook himself and looked over to notice the snow piling up on the ground, the bushes, the car. The trees were starting to sparkle with fallen crystals.
“Oh, my, a winter wonderland! I wonder if there’ll be any flutterflakes!” Kinger exclaims, excited to see one of his favorite insects.
Jax gives him a look. “…No. I don’t think there are,” he says hollowly.

Kinger’s got a therapist. He’s free of Caine. He has friends that have practically adopted him. But the real world is harder in many ways than the Amazing Digital Circus that follows in his shadow. When Kinger goes on a winter trip with his fellow escaped Circus mates, he gets caught in the snow. Panic and confusion ensue.Series
