Since they fought side by side to destroy the Eclipse Cannon and save the Earth, Sonic never stop thinking about Shadow.
The ebony hedgehog always seemed to find a way into Sonic’s thoughts, whether Sonic was running through Green Hills, sitting at the roof of his house or playing with his brothers.
Now, Shadow was not only in Sonic’s mind, but right in front of him.
"I’m gonna make sure Shadow has the best time here on Earth. He deserves it."

Summary
After Shadow's tragic fall to Earth and his inevitable death, Sonic cannot stop thinking about the other hedgehog. Dreams of Shadow plague him, and he cannot get over fighting alongside him to save the world.
His family remains supportive but can only do so much against Sonic's grief of a friendship that had never existed.
After weeks of these dreams, Sonic cannot help but look for signs of Shadow's survival, his hope fading with each passing day.
Nothing he did or could've done would have prepared him for the discovery he makes a late December afternoon.
