Tells her that if the numbers and the shapes and images in her mind hurt so bad then she should build them, should give them form so that they can finally leave her alone.
Jarvis is the one who finally teaches her how to breathe.
Or
Toni Stark grows up with the tale of Icarus swirling in the back of her mind. Instead of taking it as a precautionary tale about hubris and overreaching she decides it's more about the limitations of wax.
Years later when she builds herself wings of her own she makes sure to build them out of better material.

Summary
In a world where HYDRA was wiped out in the '40s, Steve is found by the Army rather than SHIELD. General Thaddeus Ross wants a perfectly obedient super-soldier at his command, and to that end, he sets out to break Steve to his will. As Steve struggles to come to terms with all he has lost, his life in captivity is only made bearable by the presence of another prisoner-- another super-soldier known only as "Soldat".

“It hurts most the first time, but you get used to it,” Bucky whispered. Steve jerked at the sound; it was Brooklyn, it was 1939, it was Bucky. “Bucky!” he tried to scream through the gag, fresh tears coming down his face. “You’re strong though. You’ll make a good asset. I’ll show you.”
“He’s secure,” Bucky said, voice toneless and mechanic once more
The chair lowered and Steve was screaming through the gag, still thrashing against the restraints even harder. Something lowered over his head and pressed against his face. He could not even jerk his face away, he was held too tightly. He met Bucky’s eyes; desperate, terrified as he tried to tell Bucky everything, tried to convince Bucky to stop this through eye contact alone.
The machine revved up under the chair. Bucky smiled down at him. Then all Steve knew was pain before darkness finally took hold of him. The last thing he saw was Bucky smiling. He looked the same.- Language:

The doctor pulled out the teacher's chair and sat across from Steve, his hands folded and his face solemn and kindly. "It happens once in a while," he said. His voice was soft and gentle, and irrationally, it made Steve angry. Such ugly news ought to be delivered in a more fitting tone. "The most likely cause is that your intended mate died before you were born or shortly after they were born, before the bond had time to fully form. It's called a Type C or a Type--"
Steve wasn't interested in the terminology. "Is that why I'm... like this?" He gestured down at his frail, sickly body.
"Probably," the doctor said. "There are some further tests we can give you, down at the hospital, to determine--"
"Why bother?" Steve growled, slumping back in his chair and crossing his arms. "My mate is dead and no one else is going to want me, not like this." Tears stung his eyes and he blinked them back furiously.
"It's also possible, though less likely, that you're a Type A -- firstborn of the pairing -- but that your mate has simply not yet been born," the doctor said.

Tony's got people he pays to take care of that kind of thing, and anyway, he's pretty sure that he's going to die of some exotic disease in his workshop, because Dummy's still a little spotty about what is 'clean' enough to put on an open wound. The rest of the Avengers are in this for personal gain, except for Clint, he just enjoys being a dick.
And some things shouldn't be a chore.

Summary
For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

Summary

The room is small, the apartment isn’t much bigger. They live out of suitcases and boxes, not staying in one place for more than six months at a time, but in a room with no windows, Steve has never felt more at home, squeezed onto a narrow twin bed with his very best friend. Steve’s hands are cold when they close over Bucky’s and his fingers find the spaces between his and as if it is the only thing Bucky’s body knows how to do, he curls his fingers, trapping Steve’s with his.

That was not what Tony would have expected from Captain America. “‘Holy cow’? Did the history books mess up? Was your family actually from India and not Ireland?”
“Fuck off, Stark. I ain’t shitting on what comes out of your mouth, so you better leave my goddamn cows alone as well.”
Tony doesn’t know whether to feel awestruck or betrayed. “You,” he says and points at Rogers, “are nothing like I expected.”
“Sorry to be a fucking disappointment,” Rogers says with a scowl and pulls his ridiculous helmet on, covering the sleekly styled brown hair. It was astonishing how even Rogers’s golden hair had been false propaganda -- but of course the great America had wanted to present its figurehead as Aryan perfection in the time of eugenics. “Suit up, everyone. Let’s get this shit done.”
