He was 12 the day he saw an odd figure appear.
She was tall, with pale skin, thin eyes, and white hair. She looked to be about 20, with red eyes, but not like the man who’d taken him. Gentler and kinder.
She unlocked the cell and offered a hand.
Hed stared at her, unsure what to do for a moment, then reached out.
Just then they both heard guards coming down the steps. He’d reeled back. The woman said something softly. He couldn’t make it out. Then she was gone.
The guards had blamed him for his cell being open, and beat him senseless.
Even in the midst of his pain he had hope. Someone had found him.
Someone might just come and save him.

If things weren’t so bad, he could maybe train someone, but as of right now that was out of the question. Even with his in-depth knowledge, he was barely keeping up. He was spread too damn thin.
All he needed was someone to help him manage the power, run the bar, help with upkeep. Someone who knew what he needed and how to help. Someone to handle some of the charge while he tried to fix his own fucking mistakes. But people like that didn’t fall out of the sky. If Eddie wanted help like that, he’d be better off just making someone himself.

Now that’s a thought. Eddie’s hands paused, their movement halting.
