“I’m sorry?” Evrard asks, confused.
Arthur continues, voice dipping into humor once more, “Honestly of all the attempts it was one of the more survivable. Just dropped down a trapdoor, not even gutted or shot. Hell, I’ve gotten closer to getting the job done than you did.”

Nott catches Fjord’s grimace in her peripheral even as he looks away. “I know, I know,” she says, playing at being sheepish but mostly rolling her eyes. This burn is just a small splash, but it was a splash of fucking lava, so it’s still a nasty fuck even after the clerics have worked their magic and Caleb patted her over with his shaking hands. “You’re not supposed to touch them or they won’t heal right.”
“Is that right?” Fjord cannot recall a time when Grankton or any of his cronies had expressed any interest in how his wounds ought to be treated beyond scolding him for bleeding on the woodwork. Certainly none of them had paid mind to the time he’d shown up to class with his lip torn or to Sabian’s suspiciously matching split knuckle.
Fjord takes first watch and Nott picks at her wounds.

A boy, who didn’t look much older than he was, was sitting at the bottom of a fissure, curled in a ball and sobbing. His clothes, Viktor noticed, looked Piltovian. Well-fitted, brightly colored, and lacking any holes or patches. Although, it looked a lot more rumpled and dirtied than it should be.
