“Get him back? He’s never been mine in the first place,” Will looks away, sounding much more bitter than he’d ever admit to feeling.
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Chance counters softly, and Will hates the way his heart leaps up into his throat and that, for a split moment, he feels like he’s floating. He feels hope.
He looks back at Chance, who starts speaking without being prompted. “This is going to sound crazy, but you have to trust me, okay?” There’s a pause where Will nods hesitantly. “We could act like we’re dating, you know, to make him jealous.”
Will feels like he’s been slapped across the face. “What?”
