Cliopher flipped through the day’s personal mail. Mail addressed to him officially was opened in the office, and unless marked confidential usually opened by staff who might pass it on to him or simply summarize it. He could ask for the original, but rarely had any desire to.
Personal mail was opened on his own time, and about half of it ended up passed on to the staff for filing, as it was either poorly addressed or making an attempt to bypass the screeners. Because of that fact, every still-sealed letter in the stack had been tested for enchantments before being placed in the box for him to look at. It might still have an enchantment on it; he knew there were some, such as restricting who could open it or showing if it had been opened, that they’d still pass along. But in theory none of his personal mail should attempt to harm him physically.
Halfway down the stack was a short letter from Suzen, and he smiled and tucked that one at the top of the pile. It hadn’t been very long since Suzen’s latest visit to the Palace; he looked forward to finding out what new thing she had encountered that she wrote to him so soon after they had seen each other.
