    If the Bilbo Baggins of the future — Bilbo Oakenshield, to be precise — could whisper into his past self’s ear, he might murmur of a treasure greater than gold or jewels. Not the glinting wealth of Erebor, but something weightier and warmer: the quiet solidity of a heart he would one day call his own.

    And perhaps then, the present Bilbo would’ve braced himself better. Perhaps he’d have forgiven the rude arrival, the grating arrogance, the outright dismissal that came with it. Perhaps all the tension — the loyalty tests, the growing trust, the miscommunications, the almost moments around campfires... and the layer of danger and longing would have felt more worth it in the during process.

    Alas no such words from the future could whisper into Bilbo's awaiting ears and thus he'd simply have to wait.

    "They'll leave us alone. For a bit."

    One year after the Apocalypse-That-Wasn't, Crowley and Aziraphale have settled into a new routine: keeping an eye on supernatural happenings in the world and preventing Heaven or Hell from interfering too much with humanity. It's not a bad job - despite occasional rains of fish - and if there are some unspoken things they really ought to talk about, well, they have all the time in the world now to get around to that, right?

    At least, until the Archangel Raphael turns up on their doorstep looking for help... and it starts to become clear that the world is changing fast, and so are they.

    Or: Crowley and Aziraphale start a detective agency. Shenanigans ensue. Slowburn continues. Apparently, there is plot. I have some thoughts about Heaven, Hell, and humanism. There will be stupid jokes and a healthy sprinkling of angst.
