He could guess from the context – he’d heard of rookies being assigned to live with older single players, veterans who could show them the ropes. Maybe that was what Fletcher meant. "You'll be staying with Nikolai Petrov and his family."
The words hit Ilya like a punch to the gut. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
"Petrov?" he managed, his voice coming out strangled.

Lucien woke up with a startle, the image of blood staining those beautiful wings making him want to throw up. It was still dark outside and the male resigned himself to another sleepless night. He looked down at his hands to see them shaking and he clenched them into fists. Suddenly he felt a pair of eyes staring at him and he turned around to see Jurian awake. The general raised one perfectly arched eyebrow, his grey eyes full of worry. Lucien just shook his head. He didn’t want to talk about it. He then looked down to see Vassa still sleeping peacefully, her copper her surrounding her like a halo. It had taken her a long time to adjust to sleeping at night after her curse was broken and the male was glad that she didn’t wake up. He smiled weakly at Jurian, who laid back down in bed and watched with a canine look as Lucien got up and left the bedroom.
