High rec! The missing pieces from the book, plain and simple. I haven't gone veting chapter 8 yet but highly recommend everyone reads at least thus far.
From chapter 7:
"There was more to him than that. He was a considerate man of impeccable manners. But he was also very selfish. Not in the way most men were. He was not so simple as that. Hannibal Lecter was selfish in his need for control. He needed to be in control of himself and those around him. It spoke to the ego of his intellect, it spoke to the power of his body that it could not fail him in what he required of it. And it certainly spoke to his care and concern for Clarice herself. He was kind, and he cared for her. But why he cared for her had always been a strange mystery to her before now. She had sparked his interest for whatever reason. But he cared for her and wanted her place for Mischa because he wanted her. The purpose for which he wanted her was almost secondary. "
