“Shall be left to the fates design. I will do no more.”Before it returned the cherub to them, it touched the child gently on the forehead, marking it with the Wild of the Water.
The child, too small to understand the gift he had been given, looked back at it without a hint of fear or disdain. He was too young yet to feel otherness, too pure of heart. Perhaps with the Water’s help, he never would.
It watched the man and the woman return to their mortal land with the boy, and it wondered what they would make of its trickery.
After all, it hadn’t lied. It had promised one of their sons would grow to be strong and sure, and that another would be left to chance.
It simply hadn’t told them which son.

It seems like a peaceful day is impossible to have down in the Lanes. Vander and Silco already have their hands full trying to keep the place running, never mind the four increasingly rabid children they've chosen to take on.
Vi struggles to measure up to the ever growing expectations that her family has of her, Mylo's spiraling identity crises gets taken out on anybody who comes near, Claggor is content to be forgotten about but his destiny has an annoying habit of finding him, and little Powder is just trying to find her place in a world she fears she'll never fully understand. But things aren’t much better up in the esteemed topside half of their city, where Viktor struggles to help his fellow man of science Jayce evade the law and make real a dream that could help pull the Undercity back from the edge of ruin.
As if all of that isn’t bad enough, forces are intent on using the residents of the Lanes as pawns in an aspiring political game. Will secrets old and new alike bring this fragile family back together, or tear them apart for good?
